BACKGROUND: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease which is characterised by
the destruction of insulin-producing beta cells in human pancreas leading consequently to a
hyperglycaemic metabolism. Recent studies have shown that low cholecalciferol (25 (OH)
